Founded on the educational vision of 19th-century educationist and social reformer St. Kuriakose Elias Chavara, CHRIST (Deemed to be University) originated as Christ College in 1969. Administered by the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI), the university has been a pioneer in Indian higher education, introducing modern curricula, enforcing academic discipline, and promoting holistic development through innovative practices and a dedicated staff. In 2004, the University Grants Commission (UGC) granted autonomy to Christ College. In 2008, the Ministry of Human Resource Development of the Government of India officially recognised the institution as a ‘Deemed to be University.’

The multi-disciplinary university, which specialises in teaching, innovation, research and services, offers Bachelor, Master and Doctoral programs in humanities, social sciences, sciences, commerce, management, engineering, architecture, education, and law to a staggering 30,000 students. The institution has four campus locations in Bangalore, Karnataka, one in Lavasa-Pune, Maharashtra and another in Ghaziabad, Delhi-NCR.
